There are many things I like about living in Georgia. However, there are a few things that I don’t like about living Georgia.

FREAKING CRAZY ASS GINORMOUS BUGS AND SPIDERS!!!!!!

This is what was crawling on my bedroom floor this evening

I have never in my life seen a centipede (or millipede or whatever the hell it was) this big! Kitty was about to have herself a big gigantic snack when Blain noticed her going for it. This is the kind of thing you see Meerkat’s chomping on in the Khalahri, not in my damn bedroom in Georgia. Damn near clogged the toilet when we flushed it! Kitty better be thanking Blain for stopping her, she is only 7 pounds, it probably could have taken her.

In our first house here, we had a major problem with scorpions. They were never more than an inch long, but they are red and creepy and will still sting the hell outta ya if given the chance. I thought scorpions were desert bugs? I never even saw one when I lived in Arizona. A few times we caught the little buggers in a mason jar and spooned in some red ants so we could watch the epic battle. By the way, the ants always won. They would all start to attack the scorpion, he would quickly figure out his dilema and start to sting himself in the head. It was suicide! Red ants are a blast too! Don’t bother trying to stand in your yard for more than a second or you will inevitably be attacked by the ants. Such fun little suckers. They like to come out of pavement cracks too.

The spiders that I have seen here are nearly beyond compare. I have seen worse in Okinawa, Japan (we lived there for four years back in my Air Force days). Every spring we get the wolf spiders in the house. Insects are bad enough, but I just cannot tolerate the spiders. Oh, and don’t forget about the red wasps and hornets. Remember this.

Then there are just the odd insects like what Blain’s Dad calls “Bag Worms”. I don’t know if that is what they really are or not, because I have never heard of such a thing. About this time of year they start showing up in the trees though. This is from a tree in my front yard.

At first glance it looks like a huge spider web/nest. When they first start to show up you really can’t see any kind of bug in them, but in a few weeks it will be full of caterpillar-like carcasses. Gross!

Exterminators must make a killing here.
