It is official, I am now the mother of a teenager. Thirteen years ago today, I gave birth to my first daughter. Initially having kids sounded like a really fun thing to do and up until recently I still thought so. Don’t let anyone fool you into thinking that teeage behavior starts when they become an official teen. Oh no, it starts about a year earlier. It comes on with no notice. One day you have a loving wonderful child and then *bam* she turns into this evil, crying, hateful mess. I still get little glimspes of the child that I have loved for so many years, but they are becoming farther and farther apart.
I really shouldn’t complain a whole lot though. First of all, I am just at the beginning of this little adventure and I get this creepy feeling that this is actually the easy part. Secondly, I know her peers…and I thank God on a regular basis that they are not my children. I firmly believe that child beating is really necessary in some cases! (Not really, I keed!)
I am beginning to look fondly back on my memories of being able to make a simple comment to my daughter, without her taking it completely wrong and then storming off as she screams, “YOU ARE SO MEAN!”. My 9-year old has become the most precious child to walk the earth. I love her, she is so simple and easy compared to her sister. Unfortunately, she is on borrowed time and will turn into a teenager far sooner than I want her too.
What else am I in for? Would it just be easier to send her abroad until she is, say 25? Isn’t that about the time we become normal humans again? Why hasn’t any one thought to create a land of teens that you can send your kids to until they snap out of it? Hey, that’s a great business idea. I could make a fortune. Maybe buy Mars, get a contract with NASA and starting shipping them off. People would pay big money for this! But, who would be stupid enough to supervise all the teens? Hmmm…could you pay anyone enough money to take the job? Do they really need supervision? I need to put some more thought into this.
